Challenging ASA Standards

If you are an experienced sailor and wish to simply challenge a standard without taking a course, we can help.

Challenging a standard involves demonstrating on-water skills as well as taking the appropriate level test.

To challenge a standard, you need to schedule a private lesson. 

In the "Notes" box at the bottom of the registration form, please indicate that you wish to challenge a standard. 

Please also forward your sailing resume to the school (fax 212-786-1743) for prior review.

On the agreed upon day & time, your instructor will first administer the written test.  If you pass that, you will continue out onto the water to demonstrate practical skills.

In addition to the Private Lesson fee, there is a $50 certification fee for each standard you wish to challenge.

Sailors may only challenge one standard per day.
